In some ways, HaSatan is limited by our actions; we have the authority to either open or close the doors to his activity in our lives. As a Master Deceiver, he lures us into opening these doors (or gates) ever so slightly, those that God has intended for us to keep closed. This happens when we disobey the word of God. He then slips in and establishes strongholds to bring us into captivity. Soon, if we do not repent individually and turn back to God, then we may unknowingly and unwittingly link ourselves with those ‘tower builders’ that I mentioned earlier, and rather than building Gods Kingdom, we find ourselves corporately erecting our unrighteous empires among the nations, with religious, political and financial towers that reach to the heavens.

This is what the ‘spirit’ that animated Nimrod[i] was doing on the plains of Shinar. Unlike Yahweh, he could not create a tower himself, and if he could, for what purpose? He needed willing participants, those with a common language and unified effort to build his tower that reached to the heavens, and his throne, and a common altar for his subjects in his kingdom, so that he could be adored as their god-king. You get the point. One world, one language, one altar and one god-king!

When we deviate from God’s word and His ways, we have taken the bait of Satan. And although Satan’s deceptions impress as solid creations with firm foundations, when unmasked they are seen for what they are; mere counterfeits that soon crumble when confronted with the Truth.

For a while, it seemed that all was going well for Lucifer, but…this was not the time nor the place for a physical and spiritual architectural masterpiece. God confused the language of the construction crew and scattered them over the whole earth.

"But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, 'If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."'

So, the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel - because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.[ii]

While this tower-construction project may have been halted at Babel, it didn’t decelerate the arcane architects Master Plan of erecting global empires. Though they were scattered, the new, multi-language barrier was just a temporary hiccup in the road, as the evil architect continued to design and build his temples in the hearts of men, and now among the nations. With new ‘foreign languages’, and new locations and cultures, the adapting had begun. It was time now to introduce mankind to a smorgasbord of religions and gods. Rebellious man now simply needed to pick and choose the manifestation that best sated his spiritual appetite. Deities for everyone!

Although the worlds’ religions, with their custom-fit liturgy, languages, temples and icons sufficed for a while, they did not provide the primary end-result that Lucifer lost at the Babylonian eviction. He was unable to ascend the heights of the clouds; he did not become like the Most-High God. It did not offer Lucifer that for which he was cast from heaven; a throne. One world, one altar and one throne!

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.[iii]
